Horoscope Personality Traits for Gloranthan Cults

Runequest and Glorantha recommend the character to act like one’s god. Cults and gods are associated with runes and many of the runes are associated with personality traits.  If character does not act like the runes one’s god represents she is not likely to succeed in Glorantha nor in the cult – in fact she might suffer the displeasure of the cult or one’s god.

Personality traits are from Heroquest Glorantha. I felt that there are some runes that should have personality trait information that do not officially have it and added those to Moon, Law, Unlife and Spirit as per discussions on the Glorantha.com forums and Basicroleplaying Glorantha forums.

Here are the added personality traits:

  • Spirit: Ecstatic, Spiritual, Aware, Mystical
  • Unlife:  Soulless, Fiendish, Relentless, Cold
  • Law: Logical, Rigorous, Materialistic
  • Moon: Tolerant, Balanced

Orlanthi character has the runes Movement, Air and Mastery. Those will bring the personality traits:

  • Mastery: Proud, Just, Authorative
  • Movement: Adventurous, Dynamic, Impulsive, Reckless,
  • Air: Passionate, Proud, Unpredictable and Violent.

If one acts against those  that might cause divine unpleasure and society’s unapproval for not emulating one’s cult / god and vice versa. Depending on game system this can be handled many ways.

This brings expectations that player characters might also have about the cult members in Glorantha.

Decided to create a document providing a single page view what each cult’s runes would expect from cult initiate or rune lord

The list contains all the cults that have Glorantha Cult One Pagers which means all the ones that have cult information in various Runequest editions (Cults Compendium, Cults of Terror, Cults of Prax etc). The runes have been updated based on the research done in this document so should be up to date with the latest information. Changed Ompalam’s rune to be Law instead of Harmony. Gloranthan Cult One pagers will be updated shortly with this information.

Trade and Markets in Glorantha

What are the things available in the market – local produce of course, groceries, poultry, meat of local kinds. Guide to Glorantha gives background to import and export of the goods. This can give some flavor to your market. I took the data from Guide to Glorantha and used it to create local market availability of goods. The system is as follows:

  • anything the area is known to export is available locally in the market as well
  • anything the area is known to import is available from all the markets that export it
    • artifacts, silk and iron are rare in all the markets.
    • article is common if it is available from nearby region
    • article is rare if it comes from non nearby region OR has to cross ocean
    • rarity could be used as price modifier (for example 30-50-100% more price) as it is exotic and might be considered be of better quality to be worth to transport from far reaches of lozenge
    • rare goods (and even some of the common ones) might not be available and might be also subject to seasonal fluctuation (for example riding beasts, herbs and spices)

Created first markets for Umathela, Fonrit, Nochet, Dragon Pass and Pavis. Others will follow if there seems to be demand.

In the future more exploration about what you might see in the trading routes as some goods need to pass areas which have no demand for them.

To see the Monster Island and die – Monstropedia of Loral

 

Here are few new denizens of the beautiful island called Loral. It is populated by rare endangered pieces unified in their approach to life (hate the intruders). There is rather large treasure ship wrecked on the island and there used to be God Learners here long time ago so the historians are of course quite interested in the island. The below natural exhibits are imagined for RQ6 Encounter Generator. Among the less educated the island is called Monster Island.   The sources have been the Tradetalk #13, Guide to Glorantha and Men at Sea.

Some are really co-operative and are driven by the sense to please (their palates) and fulfill their heart’s desire (hate the intruders). Some of these are bad news indeed.

The Sea, The Sea – Gloranthan Ships for RQ6

Glorantha has inspired a largish variety of ships and maritime vessels over time. Most of the sources are out of print, out of date or incomplete. Some of them are not even canon anymore. I decided to gather all of the ships and maritime vessels that have been published and update them to the latest of the ship rules – the gem of a rulebook called Ships & Shieldwalls for RQ6.

Lunars have Adventures in Glorantha

Here are the bringers of civilisation, the light of the goddess, the sharp edge of the empire, the thin line between chaos and the world, the word that cannot be spoken, the collectors of the coin that shall be emperor’s, the foot that stomps, keepers of order that must be kept, the long shadow of the bat to come. RQ Encounter Generator welcomes the updated Lunar Provincial troops – the troops that stoutly sacrifice all in the name of the Emperor and the goddess to protect the innocent – and protect above all the interests of the empire from those who would defile it.  Convert and serve the goddess – it is in your best interest… You cannot stop the onslaught – empire (and you) can generate these encounters in unlimited numbers.

These now take into account passions towards locals and the Empire, expanded skill sets from Rq6 and AiG, the Lunar combat styles (Sagittarian Peltast, Lunar Corps Hoplite, Pelorian Cavalry, Antelope Lancer and new weaponry (Moon sword, Khopesh, Kontos and the new shields)). You can also add to your own Lunars a cult which has the common Folk magic spells for Lunar Provincials.

You will see these in Pavis, Sartar and Esrolia.
